Irish Dancing History: The Celts arrived in Ireland from central Europe over two thousand years ago. They brought with them their own customs and folk dances.
In the 18th century the step dance emerged. The three main "step" dances included the Reel, Jig and Hornpipe. At that time the Reel was the main form of dance for the women and the Jig and Hornpipe were the main form of dancing for the men.
